RESUMO

Nowadays dog bite is becoming a world public health problem. Therefore, the study aimed to develop a dog bite animal model that is helpful to solve these problems. In this study, the skull of an adult dog was scanned. The three-dimensional model of the dog maxillofacial bones and dentition was built by MIMICS. Next, the model was printed with Co-Cr alloy by using selective laser sintering technology to develop the dog bite simulation pliers. Then, to simulate dog bite to most, the maximum bite force of the pliers was measured and actions contained in dog bite process was analyzed. Afterwards, according to action analysis results, rabbits were bitten by the prepared instrument in actions that simulate dog's bite. Finally, the reproducibility and controllability of this animal model of dog bite injuries was validated in an in vivo study. The results showed a reliable animal model of dog bite injuries has been developed in this study. The sites and severities of the injuries could be adjusted as the operator wishes and the animal model of dog bite injuries was highly repeatable. This study also indicates the feasibility of using digital technology in establishing animal bite models.

Non-targeted screening (NTS) methods are integral in environmental research for detecting emerging contaminants. However, their efficacy can be influenced by variations in hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridges and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) instruments across different laboratories. In this study, we scrutinized the influence of five HLB SPE cartridges (Nano, Weiqi, CNW, Waters, and J&K) and four LC-HRMS platforms (Agilent, Waters, Thermo, and AB SCIEX) on the identification of emerging environmental contaminants. Our results demonstrate that 87.6 % of the target compounds and over 59.6 % of the non-target features were consistently detected across all tested HLB cartridges, with an overall 71.2 % universally identified across the four LC-HRMS systems. Discrepancies in detection rates were primarily attributable to variations in retention time stability, mass stability of precursors and fragments, system cleanliness affecting fold change and p-values, and fragment response. These findings confirm the necessity of refining parameter criteria for NTS. Moreover, our study confirms the efficacy of the PyHRMS tool in analyzing and processing data from multiple instrumental platforms, reinforcing its utility for multi-platform NTS. Overall, our findings underscore the reliability and robustness of NTS methods in identifying potential water contaminants, while also highlighting factors that may influence these outcomes.

The rapid development of nuclear energy in China has led to increased attention to the treatment of radioactive wastewaters. Herein, a novel magnetic adsorbent, magnetic Prussian blue­molybdenum disulfide (PB/Fe3O4/MoS2) nanocomposite, was prepared by a simple in-situ fixation of ferric oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) and Prussian Blue (PB) shell layers on the surface of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets carrier. The prepared PB/Fe3O4/MoS2 nanocomposites adsorbent displayed excellent fast magnetic separation and adsorption capacity of Cs+ (Qm = 80.51 mg/g) from water. The adsorption behavior of Cs+ by PB/Fe3O4/MoS2 conformed to Langmuir isothermal and second-order kinetic model, which belonged to chemical adsorption and endothermic reaction. The equilibrium adsorption capacity of PB/Fe3O4/MoS2 to Cs+ has reached 90 % in less than 110 min. Moreover, the adsorption properties of PB/Fe3O4/MoS2 remained good in the pH range of 2-7. Based on this, PB/Fe3O4/MoS2 complex was a fast and high selectivity adsorption material for Cs+, which was expected to be used in the practical treatment of cesium-containing radioactive wastewater.

CONTEXT: Yiqi Liangxue Shengji prescription (YQLXSJ) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula that has long been used for treatment after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). OBJECTIVE: To investigate the putative pharmacological mechanism of YQLXSJ on restenosis through an integrated approach utilizing metabolomics and network pharmacology. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into sham, model, YQLXSJ, and positive groups. YQLXSJ group received the treatment of YQLXSJ (6 g/kg/d, i.g.) and the positive group was treated with atorvastatin (2 mg/kg/d, i.g.). After 4 weeks, the improvement in intimal hyperplasia was evaluated by ultrasound, H&E staining, and immunofluorescence. UPLC-MS/MS technology was utilized to screen the differential metabolites. Network pharmacology was conducted using TCMSP, GeneCards, and Metascape, etc., in combination with metabolomics. Eventually, the core targets were acquired and validated. RESULTS: Compared to models, YQLXSJ exhibited decreased intima-media thickness on ultrasound (0.23 ± 0.02 mm vs. 0.20 ± 0.01 mm, p < 0.01) and reduced intima thickness by H&E (30.12 ± 6.05 µm vs. 14.32 ± 1.37 µm, p < 0.01). We identified 18 differential metabolites and 5 core targets such as inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS2), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (NOS3), vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGFA), ornithine decarboxylase-1 (ODC1) and group IIA secretory phospholipase A2 (PLA2G2A). These targets were further confirmed by molecular docking and ELISA. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: This study confirms the effects of YQLXSJ on restenosis and reveals some biomarkers. TCM has great potential in the prevention and treatment of restenosis by improving metabolic disorders.

Background: Panax Ginseng is a perennial and semi-shady herb with tremendous medicinal value. Due to its unique botanical characteristics, ginseng is vulnerable to various abiotic factors during its growth and development, especially in high temperatures. Proteins encoded by 14-3-3 genes form a highly conserved protein family that widely exists in eukaryotes. The 14-3-3 family regulates the vital movement of cells and plays an essential role in the response of plants to abiotic stresses, including high temperatures. Currently, there is no relevant research on the 14-3-3 genes of ginseng. Methods: The identification of the ginseng 14-3-3 gene family was mainly based on ginseng genomic data and Hidden Markov Models (HMM). We used bioinformatics-related databases and tools to analyze the gene structure, physicochemical properties, cis-acting elements, gene ontology (GO), phylogenetic tree, interacting proteins, and transcription factor regulatory networks. We analyzed the transcriptome data of different ginseng tissues to clarify the expression pattern of the 14-3-3 gene family in ginseng. The expression level and modes of 14-3-3 genes under heat stress were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) technology to determine the genes in the 14-3-3 gene family responding to high-temperature stress. Results: In this study, 42 14-3-3 genes were identified from the ginseng genome and renamed PgGF14-1 to PgGF14-42. Gene structure and evolutionary relationship research divided PgGF14s into epsilon (ε) and non-epsilon (non-ε) groups, mainly located in four evolutionary branches. The gene structure and motif remained highly consistent within a subgroup. The physicochemical properties and structure of the predicted PgGF14 proteins conformed to the essential characteristics of 14-3-3 proteins. RNA-seq results indicated that the detected PgGF14s existed in different organs and tissues but differed in abundance; their expression was higher in roots, stems, leaves, and fruits but lower in seeds. The analysis of GO, cis-acting elements, interacting proteins, and regulatory networks of transcription factors indicated that PgGF14s might participate in physiological processes, such as response to stress, signal transduction, material synthesis-metabolism, and cell development. The qRT-PCR results indicated PgGF14s had multiple expression patterns under high-temperature stress with different change trends in several treatment times, and 38 of them had an apparent response to high-temperature stress. Furthermore, PgGF14-5 was significantly upregulated, and PgGF14-4 was significantly downregulated in all treatment times. This research lays a foundation for further study on the function of 14-3-3 genes and provides theoretical guidance for investigating abiotic stresses in ginseng.

A novel process that includes selective reduction roasting followed by hydrolysis was proposed in this work to recover zinc, and efficiently extract calcium and sulfur from hazardous zinc-rich gypsum residue (ZGR) waste for high-purity of CaCO3 and sulfur production. The selective reduction behaviors of ZGR during the reduction roasting were investigated in detail based on thermodynamic analysis and roasting experiments. The effect of roasting temperature, carbon dosage and time on the selective reduction of ZGR was comprehensively investigated, and the results indicated that ZnO and CaSO4 in the ZGR can be selectively reduced to Zn(g) and CaS, respectively. The volatile Zn(g) was oxidized to ZnO and enriched in the dust, which can be used as a secondary zinc resource. Moreover, the hydrolysis behaviors and leaching kinetic of CaS during hydrolysis were studied intensively. Results depicted that in the H2S-H2O system, the CaS in the roasted product can be selectively and efficiently dissolved into the leachate. Furthermore, the kinetic analysis revealed that the hydrolysis of CaS conformed to the internal diffusion reaction control model in the shrinking core model and the apparent activation energy Ea = -12.02 kJ/mol. The obtained hydrolysate with low impurities could be used to capture CO2 for the production of high-purity sulfur and CaCO3. Iron and other impurities in the roasted product were concentrated into the leaching slag in the form of metallic iron and akermanite. The whole process realized the recovery of zinc, and the selective and effective extraction of calcium and sulfur, which could provide an alternative process for the large-scale treatment of these hazardous wastes.

To promote ecosystem protection in the Wujiang River, this paper proposes a practical approach for calculating the environmental flow. The proposed approach combines the idea of the "guarantee rate" of the flow duration curve (FDC) method and the grading idea of the Tennant method. A daily flow series of the Wujiang River was compiled from 1956 to 2019 and used to compare the effect of the proposed approach versus the traditional approaches in four selected sections along the river. The results show that the environmental flow of the Wujiang River can be divided into five levels by the T-FDC method, with a level-by-level disparity, and all levels can capture the temporal and spatial variability of river flow. Additionally, the calculated basic environmental flow process ranges between the historical minimum and second minimum monthly average flow, and the threshold width of the optimal flow is more reasonable than the Tennant method. The T-FDC method can provide technical support for Wujiang River ecosystem management and sustainable development.

In this article, a robust distributed fault detection and isolation (FDI) scheme for second-order multiagent systems (MASs) with exogenous disturbances based on partial agents' absolute state will be proposed. We design a robust control law with disturbance rejection term for each agent, then, an augmented MAS closed-loop system without disturbance term is formed. We construct a bank of observers for FDI in some selected agents for the augmented MAS closed-loop system based on the idea of an unknown input observer (UIO), where the observers for FDI of the entire MAS are updated by the selected agents' absolute states and relative states between themselves and their neighbors, which avoids utilizing all agents' absolute states. We run observers for FDI in the selected agents to generate residuals to detect the faulty agent between themselves and their neighbors. Meanwhile, the existence proof of observers for FDI is also presented. It is worth noting that the remaining healthy agents will reach consensus again under the original robust control law if the communication topology is still connected. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is illustrated by a multivehicle example.

BACKGROUD: Xuezhitong (XZT) is an extract of Allium macrostemon Bunge that has lipid-lowering properties. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of XZT on lipids in subjects with hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) without severe dyslipidaemia. METHODS: A total of 358 subjects with HTG were enrolled and randomly assigned to receive XZT (2700 mg daily), xuezhikang (XZK) (1200 mg daily) or placebo. The primary endpoint was the reduction or percent reduction in the TG level over 12 weeks of treatment. RESULTS: At the 12-week follow-up, a reduction in the TG level from baseline was observed in both groups, but the XZT and XZK groups demonstrated a significantly greater reduction than the placebo group (30.77%, 24.02% vs 11.59%, P < 0.0167); 70.54% of subjects in the XZT group and 62.30% of subjects in the XZK group demonstrated reductions in TG levels of at least 20%, compared with 41.67% of the subjects in the placebo group (P < 0.0167). Treatment with XZT capsules also demonstrated superior performance compared with the placebo with respect to the control of lipids (17.97% vs 5.00%), total cholesterol (TC) (14.18% vs 3.89%), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (17.98% vs 2.95%), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (21.47% vs 2.16%). Daily use of XZT for 12 weeks resulted in statistically significant (65.22% vs 38.30%, 25.00%; P < 0.0167) and clinically meaningful increases in HDL-C levels by ≥4 mg/dl compared with XZK and placebo. XZT was safe and well tolerated; the safety and tolerability profiles were similar across treatment groups. No subject experienced myopathy or markedly elevated liver transaminases or creatine kinase. CONCLUSIONS: XZT significantly reduced TG levels and was well tolerated. OBJECTIVE: To examine the effects and safety of oral compound Chinese medicine (CCM) plus routine western medicine (RWM) in in-stent restenosis (ISR). METHODS: Various electronic databases (CBM, CNKI, VIP, Wanfang, PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library) were searched until April 2017. The quality of the included studies was evaluated, and meta-analyses were performed using RevMan5.3 and STATA 12.0 software. Moreover, funnel plot and Egger's publication bias plots were analysed to identify publication bias and adverse reactions were reported. A sensitive analysis was carried out according to the quality score. RESULTS: In all, 40 RCTs involving 4536 patients were selected for this review. The pooled estimates of three studies showed that the benefit to the number of ISRs (NoR) was more substantial for CCM plus RWM than for RWM alone (RR 0.24, 95% CI 0.10 to 0.57, P = 0.001; I2 = 0%, P = 0.81). The rate of ISR was significantly lower for CCM plus RWM than for the same RWM alone (RR 0.44, 95% CI 0.37 to 0.53, P < 0.00001; I2 = 0%, P = 0.95). CCM plus RWM benefitted the rate of ISR when a CM placebo plus RWM was used as the control intervention (RR 0.34, 95% CI 0.20 to 0.57, P < 0.0001; I2 = 0%, P = 0.95). The difference of adverse reactions was not significant. For secondary outcomes, the CCM plus RWM group did not reduce the rates of revascularization and cardiac death, but it did reduce the rate of recurrent angina over the results observed in the RWM alone group. In addition, funnel plot and Egger's publication bias plot indicated that there was publication bias. The association between the use of CCM plus RWM and RWM alone remained significant after the sensitivity analysis excluding studies with low quality score (quality score ⩽ 4) with a pooled RR of 0.41 (95% CI, 0.34-0.50). CONCLUSION: Oral CCM plus RWM clearly benefitted patients with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) because it prevented and treated ISR better than was observed for either RWM alone or a CM placebo plus RWM.

PURPOSE: It has been widely accepted that a split of the deep temporal fascia occurs approximately 2 to 3 cm above the zygomatic arch and extends into the superficial and deep layers. The deep layer of the deep temporal fascia is between the superficial temporal fat pad and the temporal muscle. However, during procedures, the authors noted the absence of the deep layer of the deep temporal fascia between the superficial temporal fat pad and the temporal muscle. This prospective study was conducted to clarify the presence or absence of a deep layer of the deep temporal fascia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Anatomic layers of the soft tissues of the temporal region, with reference to the deep temporal fascia, were investigated in 130 cases operated on for zygomaticofacial fractures using the supratemporal approach from June 2013 to June 2017. RESULTS: Of 130 surgeries, the authors found the absence of a thick, obviously identifiable, fascial layer between the superficial temporal fat pad and the temporal muscle. In fact, the authors found nothing above the temporal muscle in most cases. In a few cases, the authors observed only a small amount of scattered loose connective tissue between the superficial temporal fat pad and the temporal muscle. CONCLUSIONS: This clinical study showed the absence of a thick, obviously identifiable, fascial layer between the superficial temporal fat pad and the temporal muscle, which suggests that a "deep layer of the deep temporal fascia" might not exist.
